Utopian Professional Recruitment are delighted to be working with a new client who is looking to recruit a Group Financial Controller located near Dalkeith, Mid Lothian.
Within this newly created role you will be working for the overarching holding company that subsequently has a number of trading entities within its ownership. This appointment will form part of a new management structure within the holding company and report to business owners.
The purpose of this role will be to migrate the accounting function of the group and holding company away from the firm of accountants that are currently in charge of producing them. You will also be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the senior management team upon financial strategy, people strategy, governance and operations. Whilst you will have responsibility for the overall financial performance of the group, from planning and budgeting through to accounting and audit. You will also lead on operational management including HR, Facilities and IT.
Your responsibilities will include:
- As an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, collaboratively drive the development and delivery of strategic plans and budgets aligned with the Groups’ vision, values and objectives.
- Create robust financial, HR and operational plans and policies, including risk management that enhance efficiency, collaboration and effectiveness across The Group
- Empower and develop your team, fostering a cohesive culture and driving high levels of engagement and performance
- Proactively identify key risks and implement robust risk management practices, including financial, governance, digital, people, safety, and sustainability
- Cultivate an environment that values controls and compliance as essential competencies
- Strategically manage and prepare the annual budget
- Monitor and report on financial performance, providing regular updates to the Board
- Comply with financial reporting requirements and submit statutory returns
- Lead on applications for grants, including capital funding applications
- Implement changes and allocate accurate resources
- Ensure HR processes and systems are both legally compliant and meet internal policies
- You’ll be able to set up systems that are compliant and based on best practice, helping the business understand how resources are allocated and ensure we are getting ROI.
- You’ll bring a culture of transparency and efficiency to the running of our Group, so that are effective in everything that they do
To be considered for this opportunity, we are looking for:
- Be a professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Background working within the Manufacturing or Construction sector
- Experience of working within a Group structured environment
- Ability to influence and carry out tasks across a variety of departments
- You’ll have a keen eye for detail, critical thinking, flexible and solution focussed
- Experience of preparing financial statements in accordance with legislation
- Experienced in using financial information (management accounts) to aid decision making; able to present financial information to non-financial audiences and working with different teams who need financial data to help them in their roles
- Demonstrable experience in successfully developing and implementing financial and operational strategies in a fast-growing environment is essential. Ideally where turnovers is between £5m & £10M.
- Experience of leading transformational change involving systems, projects and people is essential.
- Experience of effectively cultivating highly engaged and high performing teams that deliver organisational results is essential.
- Experience across financial planning and analysis, including budgeting
- Strong operations leadership experience, including facilities and HR
