Classroom Based SEMH TA - Recent Graduates wanted!

North Manchester

Prospero Teaching are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work in a Secondary SEMH provision in Northenden. The school provides a vibrant and supportive environment for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. These young people will have an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to help them to engage with the curriculum.

Your role will be to provide mentorship and some academic support to Key stage 3 and 4 students. Ideally you will be drawing on still you have, from a background or studies in the following areas; health & social care, psychology, youth work, sports coaching.

If you have done placements as part of your course in a formal setting, or have supported students, or have any other experience of mentoring children and young adults paid or unpaid, we'd love to hear from you.

Hours- Monday to Friday 8.30am-3.45pm


The school are currently looking for the following roles;

1:1 Mentor

Supporting a pupil who is struggling to work in a static classroom environment. Your role will be to act as a mentor to get to the heart of the issue with the young person and come up with an action plan/targets to achieve to support them back in the classroom.

ARC team (Attendance issues)

This role is working with pupils that have additional needs on top of their SEND statement. They are not engaging in school life and have not attended school properly. Your role here is working more with the vulnerable pupils in the school, those at most risk and those who need the most support. Here you will be looking at attendance plans and plans to help them reintegrate into the school.

This school deals with students with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) from KS2 to KS4 all students have a statement for SEN needs due to behaviour or their additional learning needs.

You would be working with children with various learning disabilities and need extra support in the classroom. If you are looking towards a career in Education Psychology or teaching, then this is a perfect opportunity!

You must be prepared to support children with SEN, and therefore provide an environment where they can reach their potential in all areas. Also, you should be able to build rapports with the children and support their social and behavioural needs.

Depending on performance the school would look at either extending the contract or offering a permanent position.
