We are looking for a permanent Director of Core Innovation to join our BSI team.
BSI is expanding investment in Innovation, both in terms of enabling and futureproofing existing key BSI business solutions, as well as radical innovation and new solutions that extend trust, resilience, and sustainability. The Director of Core Innovation is a key position that works directly with BSI’s four revenue-generating Divisions (Assurance, Consulting Services, Regulatory Solutions, and Knowledge Solutions). This team oversees all Innovation activities within the Divisions and manages a team of Divisional Innovation Business Partners.
The successful jobholder will be responsible for driving client-facing innovation solutions and internal and digitised improvements alongside the core BSI Divisions, leading the BSI Core Innovation team to guide and enhance the future innovation strategy of each business unit through the development of new revenue opportunities and other value. These solutions will typically leverage emerging technologies and other approaches and improvements enabled by the broader BSI innovation function and ecosystem. The initiatives will involve close collaboration with internal BSI stakeholders, the broader BSI Innovation organisation, and external technology partners.
The Director of Core Innovation will provide direction for a team of four Innovation Business Partners each responsible for driving client-focused innovation within the Assurance, Consulting, Regulatory Services, and Knowledge Solutions Divisions. The successful candidate will report to BSI’s Group Innovation Director and be a member of the Innovation Leadership Team. The candidate will work with senior leadership stakeholders in each stream alongside the appointed stream Innovation Business Partners.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the BSI Core Innovation agenda towards futureproofing each business division alongside Innovation Business Partners and senior stakeholders.
Partner with Divisions and co-create a vision of a deeply digital offering and digital delivery strategy.
Lead client-facing activities for Core Innovation ensuring client pain points, opportunities, and Innovation co-creation are captured and worked into product roadmaps.
Work with emerging disruptive technologies including Blockchain, Immersive, IoT, Data/AI, etc with other core innovation team leads and relevant stream stakeholders towards promotion and advocacy with BSI clients.
Identify, prioritise, and curate key strategic client initiatives with positive change impact across the stream and wider BSI business.
Maintain and continuously improve BSI's Core Innovation project pipeline, ensuring correct project scoping and resourcing across all key initiatives driven by the team.
Work alongside core innovation team to integrate and embed developed Innovation solutions within relevant stream business operations, and sales and marketing programs.
Manage and allocate the core innovation project budget alongside other senior stakeholders.
Ensure that opportunities for synergies and collaboration across the core innovation stream are identified and exploited where possible.
Work with the Global Innovation Director to ensure alignment between innovation functions.
Feed Horizon 1 project proposals into Divisions and test for relevance. Alternatively, feed Horizon 2/3 external innovations to disruptive innovation labs from the stream as appropriate.
Lead positive change and continuous improvement within core BSI streams, championing key innovation initiatives.
Work closely with strategic BSI technology partners as relevant to initiatives.
Manage and maintain senior stakeholder relationships between the Innovation team and the stream leadership.
Act as a key emerging technology evangelist for core business streams.
What we are looking for:
Education/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Technology, commercial, science, or technical-related field (candidates with equivalent professional experience will also be considered).
Qualification in project, program product management, or similar discipline.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Significant experience in relevant Innovation, Technology Lab experience
Demonstrated ability and experience to lead projects and programs of activities in a technology-based context.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and effectively manage relationships with client stakeholders and BSI senior management.
Demonstrated ability and a proven track record of success in delivering client services in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated passion and exposure to emerging technologies in a professional context.
Strong operational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage across a varied range of projects and initiatives.
Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated exposure and experience with technology initiatives.
Ability to manage and motivate creative teams and individuals, providing clear team direction.
Strong project coordination and management - be able to apply relevant general skills to initiatives as required - project/program management, research, facilitation, technology, and subject domain understanding.
Rounded understanding of different skills and domains (and/or ability to acquire knowledge) in areas such as agile project management, risk, technology, data science, and client engagement among others.
General interest and passion for innovation and emerging technology
Strong communication and influencing skills - internally and with clients. General experience with disruptive technologies including AI, Data Science, Blockchain, IoT, Augmented Reality, RPA’s (Desirable)
Exposure to innovation facilitation techniques (design thinking, design sprints, problem framing, etc.) (Desirable)
