Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Centre for Human Genetics (CHG), Nuffield Department of Medicine. Your work will enable and support the scientific activities of the Centre and ensure a safe and productive environment.
You will primarily be will assisting in the co-ordination and management of services and projects at the CHG, with direction from the Laboratory Manager-CHG, Health and Safety Officer and the Facilities Operations Manager. You will be responsible for monitoring, ordering and distributing core stocks at a point of use in the laboratories and office areas. You will be tasked with upkeeping and maintaining common user areas within the laboratories to ensure compliance with GLP. Additionally, you will organise the calibration and repairments of pipettes: six monthly pipette clinics on site and/or post-away service. Finally, you will be responsible for assisting the Facilities Operations Manager in ensuring the help desk and Reception continue to operate efficiently in the absence of staff or during times of peak activity, which will require becoming familiar with our Building Management System (BMS). It is essential that you hold an A-Level qualification (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Biology. You will have experience in a laboratory research environment and demonstrate the ability to use precision equipment. You will be able to recognise safe laboratory practice and ensure persons undertaking work and doing so using appropriate safety procedures and in the correct dedicated areas. You will also have sufficient IT skills with up to date experience of Microsoft Office as well as an organised approach to work, with efficient time management. Finally, you will be able to work as part of a team member and individually as needed, and be able to handle goods and equipment.
