Job description
Compassion extends beyond a mere job; it serves as the essential link that connects us to the individuals we care for.
Being a Care Assistant means much more than providing support to those in need. It means having the privilege of positively impacting the lives of others on a deeply emotional level, fostering connections that can make a world of difference.
We believe at Hatherleigh Nursing Home that every day should bring new experiences, challenges, and rewards. As a Care Assistant, you will never predict a 'typical day' because each day is unique, as it should be. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and happiness of individuals, enriching their lives with your compassion and care.
When someone moves into a care home it is a continuation of life's journey. Just like anyone who moves house, it is an opportunity for new beginnings and fresh connections. As a Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring that this transition is filled with empathy, empowering individuals to embrace their new home with a sense of support and friendship.
A Typical Day as a Care Assistant:
Understanding a daily routine and to encourage and support independence
Supporting ease when moving in and out of bed & gentle support when settling into a chair
Gently assisting individuals to move safely around the home
Support with personal care (this will include supporting with personal hygiene & bathroom visits)
Ensuring mealtimes are pivotal moments of inclusion and connection
Support with emotional care, building trusting empathetic relationships
Recording daily personal care records on to a computer system
Being fully present and engaged during handovers ensuring seamless continuity of care
The essence of living in a care home lies not in mundane daily activities but in embracing meaningful occupations that reflect the rich tapestry of a person’s past life history. Supporting engagement in familiar pursuits such as tending to a garden, nurturing plants, indulging in the simple joy of washing pots, venturing out into the community, playing a musical instrument, or reading a book / watching TV show, creating an environment that celebrates the uniqueness of each individual
