Roofer

As a Roofer, you will be expected to:
• undertake roofing work on the full range of properties
• cover roofs of structures with shingles, slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood, or related materials. May spray roofs, sidings, and walls with material to bind, seal, insulate, or soundproof sections of structures
• inspect problem roofs to determine the best way to repair them
• measure roof to calculate the quantities of materials needed
• replace damaged or rotting joists or plywood
• install vapor barriers or layers of insulation
• install shingles, asphalt, metal, or other materials to make the roof watertight.
• align roofing materials with edges of the roof
• cut roofing materials to fit around walls or vents
• cover exposed nail or screw heads with roofing cement or caulk to prevent leakage
• undertake, as and when required, roofing work associated with major and minor new construction work.
• repair and maintain felt, tiled and slated roofs
• undertake minor joinery work as necessary in association with roofing work.
• carry out minor lead or metal flashing works in association with roofing work
• carry out minor repointing and brickwork associated with roofing work
• Ensuring that all necessary paperwork in assisting with the Schedule of Rates is completed and returned to the appropriate administrative centre in accordance with established procedures
• provide a service to clients and maintain a good customer relationship as a priority.
• act at all times as a representative of the department and ensure that the customer is completely satisfied
• ensure all PPE equipment issued is accounted for at all times and kept safe and secure. To use/wear and apply all PPE issued by Sovini Property Services.
• meet appraisal targets and support the delivery and achievement of overall business objectives.

To be successful in a Roofer role, the skills you will need:
• City & Guilds/NVQ III Roofing.
• Pass Craft in City & Guilds or S/NVQ Level 2 Roofing (Construction) or NVQ Level 2/3 Bricklaying
• CSCS Card holder or equivalent.
• Experience of all types of roofing
• Experience of stripping and removing felt roofing, laying built up roofing systems including all necessary details, stripping and replacing flashings, replacing laths, felt and slates on patches and new roofs, repointing ridge and hip tiles, verges etc, replacing chimney pots.
• Knowledge of associated trades.
• Experience of health and safety best practice and procedures and ability to give examples of how compliance has been upheld within a repairs and/or maintenance environment.
• Experience of dealing with customers.
• Proven ability in all aspects of Roofing, Bricklaying and associated skills including diagnosis of work problems.
• Ability to understand and respond to both verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to undertake heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, work at heights etc and to be able to negotiate flights of stairs in multi-storey blocks of varying levels including working at heights(i.e. some of the buildings are 16 storeys high)
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team, at times without supervision to varying deadlines.
• Ability to maintain a flexible approach to work and activities.
• Basic written communication skills in order to complete paperwork related to daily movements.
• Ability to work on own initiative when necessary
• Team player with the ability to work off own initiative.
• Driving Licence.
• Willingness to work at weekends and out of hours (on a rota basis).
• Excellent communication skills, able to communicate across multiple channels including Microsoft Teams, Face to Face and Email.

Experience or Knowledge of the below would be advantageous but not essential:
• Experience of working within the social housing sector delivering maintenance and building services in both void and occupied properties.
• Experience of working alongside contractors and subcontractors.
