The Role
- The vacancy is that of a Homeless Outreach Worker; this is a 6-week assignment to be considered for extension and will cover a period of long-term sick leave.
- Pay rate for this job is £14.50-£16.00, dependant on experience.
- Homeless Outreach Worker’s will work across services in Headington & Cowley, Oxfordshire.
- This is a full-time job; 37.5 hours per week, typically working between Monday & Friday, 9AM to 5PM. There may be occasional flexibility required alongside this.
The Responsibilities
- Working across the community in Aylesbury, responding to reports of rough sleeping and engaging with known rough sleepers to engage them with key services and assess their circumstances.
- Advising on matters relating to income maximisation (typically welfare & benefits) or housing-related issues, often signposting clients to local authorities.
- Dealing with themes of moderate to complex support need with an aim to reducing risk and harm. This may include mental health and substance misuse.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to reduce rough sleeping across Buckinghamshire and offer support to those in need.
The Requirements
- Candidates must have access to a full UK driving license to accommodate travel between services and will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
- Experience held in working with vulnerable people with complex needs, including mental health, learning disability, challenging behaviour, rough sleepers and substance misuse.
- Knowledge and working experience of relevant IT systems, such as MS Office, and the ability to complete admin work to a high ability.
- Strong communicator and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of relevant supporting subjects, such as welfare & benefits, housing, education, employment etc.
- Completed training in safeguarding and working knowledge of mental health.
The Desirables
- Qualifications in or equivalent to a Level 3 Health & Social Care NVQ or equivalent.
- 2-years of working experience held specifically working with rough sleepers or within a homeless charity.
