Homelessness Officer

Full Time - Hybrid
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Homelessness Officer to join a team based in Doncaster on a full-time temporary ongoing basis.
This role is Hybrid, with 1 week on site in office, and 1 week working from home alternating.
The Homelessness Officer will be a part of a team conducting assessments of those presenting as homeless, or at risk of homelessness, identifying problems causing their homelessness, and offering support and advice.
The post holder will be responsible for providing advice, assistance, and support to members of the community seeking housing advice, and actively working to reduce homelessness in the community.
This role requires in-depth knowledge of housing legislation, policies, and procedures, as well as excellent communication experience of interviewing within a homelessness prevention role.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a similar role, within housing options or social housing, working closely with homelessness prevention
- Knowledge of housing legislation, policies, and procedures, including the Homelessness Reduction Act
- Experience of working with vulnerable people including direct experience of working to prevent homelessness
- Knowledge of relevant services and benefits to best support applicants experiencing housing problems and at risk of homelessness
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage workload efficiently, and meet deadlines
Role Expectations
- Work with people in housing need and those who are potentially homeless to identify and address their housing and support needs. To identify problems causing their potential homelessness and provide them with tailored advice and assistance to secure alternative settled accommodation and prevent their becoming homeless
- Build relationships with those at risk within the community, support them and offer realistic housing options advice to prevent homelessness
- Develop, update review, and implement Personalised Housing Plans for customers
- Assess Housing Needs: Conduct thorough assessments of individuals and families to determine their housing needs and eligibility for different housing options.
- Investigate and determine the status of those presenting as homeless as referred to the team
- Provide a range of assistance and support to prevent homelessness including work relating to asylum seekers, mortgage rescue scheme and when necessary representing clients at court hearings in regards to possession proceedings
- Develop working relationships with colleagues, as well as key partners including statutory services, local landlords, and other housing organisations
- Maintain Records: Accurately record all interactions, assessments, and decisions in line with relevant policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and data protection guidelines are strictly followed
