Job description
To provide medical assessment, diagnosis and formulation to patients admitted under the post holders care and carry out RC responsibility. To assess and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act. To provide (or ensure referral to the appropriate service for the provision of) up to date, evidence-based interventions for the patients admitted under the post holders care. To collaborate within inpatient services, GPs, Community Treatment Team and primary care clinicians regarding the physical health care of patients admitted under the post holders care. To provide leadership, consultation, advice and guidance within the Inpatient Care team. To work collaboratively with Senior Clinical Colleagues in the inpatient care team. To work collaboratively with colleagues in other specialist mental health teams. To take a lead role with the Team Manager and other colleagues in service improvements and development. To contribute to the ongoing training and development programme within the team. To train and supervise junior medical staff, medical students and other allied professions. To lead, collaborate and advise on research and audit projects in the team, within the clinical governance agenda. To complete administrative tasks necessary for the fulfilment of the clinical role. Teaching role: Facilitating centralised weekly case illustrated learning (CIL), Working in close liaison with the DUCS, clinical block leads simulation and education development lead, and administrative staff, to support timetable planning, and course delivery. Acting as an examiner in relevant in-course examinations and year 4 end-of rotation feedback events. Supporting student induction and facilitating feedback sessions. Supporting the review & responding to relevant course feedback to ensure ongoing revision & improvement of student experience. Providing clinical placement to achieve rotation-specific learning outcomes. Working with other clinical teaching staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical teaching to achieve rotation-specific learning outcomes. Contributing to provision of pastoral support to all students which may vary depending on student needs. Supporting the delivery of teaching including small group teaching. Attending and contributing to relevant medical education committee / University meetings. Co-ordinating and liaising with the medical school electives team re students wishing to undertake an elective or SSC in Psychiatry. Actively delivering clinical teaching out with their specific area of responsibility Participating in the organisation of undergraduate clinical examinations and Acting as an examiner in the OSCE examinations Managing the governance arrangements for in-course assessments including formative OSCE. Maintain Continuing Professional Development in areas of teaching/training by ensuring medical education and professional knowledge is regularly updated and keeping abreast of relevant developments Contributing to the delivery of training and development sessions for other clinical teaching staff Contribute to the educational supervision and development of the Trust clinical teaching fellows. Participating in staff-student committee meetings. Linking in with other senior clinical lecturers as part of Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer status with Sunderland University. Participating in annual review and appraisal with the DME / ADME as required for a significant undergraduate role. Act as an ambassador for the Trust and its services, always promoting the objectives and ethos of the Trust Respect confidentiality of any information shared during employment.
