WHAT TO EXPECT 

Materials Engineering and Product Sustainability are a multi-discipline department providing specialist technical leadership and consultancy services to the whole business. Teams within the department comprise of Metals and Corrosion, Paints and Adhesives, Product Sustainability, Plastics and Coatings, VIAQ, Analytical and Hazardous Materials, Soft Trim, CAE Core Structural Mechanics, Fastener Engineering, Perceived Quality-Materials and Materials Characterisation.

This role will be within the Metals and Corrosion Team. The engineer will lead all technical activities related to corrosion. Work will include the provision of a technical consultancy service to the JLR business, the provision of corrosion management guidance to the business, technical approval of materials for new programmes from a corrosion perspective, supervision and leadership of laboratory failure investigations and the issue of technical reports to Engineering and CoC customers. The engineer will also lead corrosion research activities, working with external organisations as required.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Lead all technical aspects relating to corrosion. This shall include corrosion testing of materials, supporting design to prevent corrosion, validation & approval for Commodity Teams, new programmes, T&PPG, Joining, Purchase and related cross functional groups.
• Lead all technical aspects of corrosion management for commodity teams.
• Writing technical reports, Specifications, Requirements, Test Methods and Design Rules. Create and manage the materials Body of Knowledge in TRM, X Ray and ReliaSoft.
• Manage all projects in Jira and lead input for QBR/ABR planning, Market Place and Showcase events.
• Lead Research & Innovation projects from a corrosion perspective.
• Coordinate laboratory failure investigation projects and test requests.
• Provide a corrosion technical consultancy service for relevant customers.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Extensive technical knowledge/experience of corrosion, particularly with respect to corrosion mechanisms, design for corrosion management and laboratory corrosion testing.
• Technical knowledge/experience of metallic materials and technologies.
• Experience of a corrosion related technical role within a recognised industry equivalent to automotive.
• Experience of working in cross-functional teams in a materials engineering/corrosion capacity.
• Experience of laboratory failure investigation tools, techniques and practices.
• An ability to analyse problems / generate solutions and achieve results, making effective use of all resources available within the company and supplier base.
• Excellent organisational, communication and project management skills. 
• A motivated self-starter capable of taking decisions with minimal need for guidance and initiating/leading process improvement projects.
