Job Title: Lead Standards Development Manager
Location: Chiswick, Greater London
About the role:
The Lead Standards Development Manager (LSDM) is a permanent hybrid working role.
The successful jobholders will be responsible for responding to emerging opportunities to grow a portfolio of standards and committees. Engaging with industry experts, government stakeholders, trade associations, and consumers, they are responsible for developing a work program that meets stakeholder objectives, addresses market needs, and reflects good business practice.
They will manage a portfolio of priority standards development committees, projects, and programmes across both national and international settings. Proactive and forward-thinking in their approach, the LSDM is responsible for planning and implementing the long-term strategic development of their portfolio of standards development committees.
The LSDM will work with the Senior Standards Manager (SSM) and market development team to develop Sustainability / Environment Social & Governance (ESG) standards. A knowledge, interest, or experience of aspects of Sustainability / ESG would be highly advantageous.
Responsibilities:
Be the expert in standardisation within your committees; provide advice and guidance to the Chair, participants, and stakeholders during meetings.
Pro-actively manage committees of experts to identify needs for, and the development of, new standards.
Plan the future development of your committees and committee structures to address existing and emerging areas of standardization and deliver committee operating plans, development plans, and reviews.
Develop links with relevant government departments and industry bodies to build networks. Use that network to raise awareness of standards, gain support for committee initiatives, and identify areas for future work.
Play a leading role in the internal sector network and build relationships across BSI, including with the Content, Marketing, and Policy teams.
Represent BSI in an official role to external stakeholders and at relevant events, including giving presentations to promote BSI and the role of standards.
Identify high-profile and high-revenue areas of work, prepare business cases, and work with colleagues to create realistic publication and marketing plans.
Develop and maintain an understanding of industry trends and seek to understand customer needs.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
Strategic and commercial outlook
Strong communication skills, including the ability to present at industry events, conferences, etc.
Ability to build relationships and understand stakeholder needs.
Can persuade and influence, facilitate consensus, and manage conflict.
Project management skills - the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at different levels of seniority from various professional backgrounds.
