King Edward VI College is seeking a dedicated and thoughtful individual to join our Local Governing Board. We are a sixth form college, committed to providing an exceptional education for students aged 16-19, helping them to be successful, independent and community-minded. We are proud of our long history, but equally excited by our future and determined to adapt to the students of today. We are part of the Heart of Mercia Multi-Academy Trust.
Your Role as a Governor:
As a college governor, you will play a crucial role in:
· Setting the strategic direction of the college and ensuring we achieve our mission and objectives.
· Overseeing the financial performance of the college and ensuring its viability.
· Ensuring the college provides a high-quality education to all students.
· Acting as a critical friend to the college leadership, providing support and challenge.
We are looking for:
· Passion and commitment to education and young people
· The ability to analyse and interpret information.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
· A willingness to challenge and ask critical questions.
Skills in accountancy or finance, whether acquired through working in industry or through running your own business, would be valuable, but not essential. Previous experience in governance may be helpful, but we provide comprehensive training and support to all our governors. We particularly welcome prospective governors from minority ethnic backgrounds.
Commitments involve attending 7 early-evening meetings per year, with visits to the college during the working day encouraged where possible.
