Job description
We are a Church/Charity that works with Rough Sleepers and Vulnerable Adults in Central Southend. This role is to work with some of our guys that live in supported housing, often people recovering from homelessness/addiction.
What will you be doing?We are looking for someone who can work with a small group of supported housing residents. Ideally you will have some qualifications in social work, Teaching or similar, as well as an interest in maintenance. You will organise a cleaning rota and odd jobs that need to be completed and ensure that each of the guys have a chance to learn as much as they can during their time with us. You will share your knowledge and give them the support they need to grow as individuals. You will keep a register of participants and their attendance.You will work alongside our Volunteer and Premises Coordinator to provide work experience for them. Times can be flexible as can the duties of the role. You will need to be kind, empathetic and non judgemental. We welcome all applicants from all walks of life, religions or none. You would need to be willing to undergo a DBS check at our expense and will be trained in safeguarding. Other training may come up as we go along.
What are we looking for?Ideally you would have qualifications in Social work or counselling or Teaching and have an interest in DIY. You must be empathetic and non-judgemental.
What difference will you make?You will be able to make a difference in someones life and give them the guidance that many of them have never had. It is very rewarding to see someone come in to us with little confidence and go out a different person. To see them move into the work place (sometimes for the first time) and lead independent lives is our ultimate goal. Your input will allow us to reshape the way in which user/provider looks and try to redress the balance. Your expertise will allow us to move forward with other projects.
