Blue Arrow are recruiting for a Payroll Supervisor to join our city centre based client, on a part time basis. The role will be between 14 and 21 hours per week and is a 12 month FTC role. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience of working within payroll as well as experience of managing and leading teams in a previous role. If this is you then please get in touch today.
Main duties:
- Supervision and preparation of the provision of all aspects of payroll services for all payrolls operated by the clients National Office.
- Checking and preparation of monthly summary payroll reports for approval by the Payroll Manager and secondary approvers.
- Preparation and checking of monthly and ad hoc journal entries and reconciliations related to payroll for approval by the Payroll Manager.
- Cover for other members of the Payroll Team as required - including, but not limited to, preparation and timely payment of statutory payroll deductions to HMRC, pension schemes etc; preparation of P45 and P60 reports; closing monthly payroll, generating payslips and making BACS payments.
- Identify and advise on relevant payroll legislation and ensure the related processes and systems are compliant with legislation and best practice.
- Work to ensure statutory compliance in all aspects of payroll for the organisation.
Other responsibilities
- Acting with high levels of confidentiality throughout the role.
- Attend promptly to all correspondence, telephone calls and visitors.
- Liaise with external parties as required (including HMRC, banks, and all others with payroll queries).
- As part of the Finance Department, share information, attend meetings and assist in the development of systems where appropriate
- Such other duties as may be specified from time to time by the Payroll Manager including holiday and sickness cover for other members of staff.
Skills/Experience:
- CIPP Diploma in Payroll Management or relevant qualification (or minimum 5 years' experience in a technical payroll role)
- Significant current/recent experience of managing a large and complex payroll function
- Good understanding of Income tax and HMRC obligations
- Strong knowledge of statutory payroll regulations and legislation
- Knowledge of working with an integrated HR/payroll system (the client uses the Resourcelink system)
- Knowledge of Excel (advanced) and other Microsoft Office packages
- Ability to work under pressure and use own discretion to prioritise work to meet deadlines
- Good communication skills both written and oral
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to explain complex accounting issues to non-accountants
- Possess a meticulous attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
