Job Title: Cattle Manager
Location: Lincolnshire
Main Purpose of Role: The Cattle Manager is responsible for the management and development of all aspects of the Lincoln Red cattle business, including breeding, performance, grazing management, milk, and beef production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the cattle business.
- Lead, support, and mentor the cattle workforce.
- Collaborate closely with the Estate Manager and wider farming and estate team.
- Ensure sufficient feed is available for cattle by forward planning forage requirements.
- Diagnose potential diseases and injuries in livestock, ensuring their health and well-being.
- Plan and execute a breeding policy for the herd to improve performance and minimize inbreeding.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring health and safety responsibilities are fulfilled.
- Work closely with the custodian to develop and model proper and efficient techniques and systems.
- Record and document daily workflows, create project lists, and maintain detailed records, including health and safety.
- Operate and maintain a variety of mechanical equipment used in the cattle business.
- Continuously develop and explore ways to add value to the cattle business.
- Complete any other duties as required.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Passion for working with animals in ecological pasture management and regenerative settings.
- Knowledge of breeding pedigree livestock.
- Desire to share work and practices with the wider farm team and community.
- In-depth understanding of herd management, focusing on health, welfare, and production.
- Experience with farm machinery and equipment.
- Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in budget management and numerically oriented.
- Ability to use computers and farm management software.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with teams, communities, and customers.
- Interest in furthering knowledge through extra training.
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
