Cambridgeshire | United Kingdom
Job description
Witchford Village College is an expanding village college for Years 7 to 11 located two miles west of the historic city of Ely and we are part of the Eastern Learning Alliance.
We require an enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher of Religious Studies to join a successful and dynamic Humanities Faculty.
We have an extensive CPD programme for all staff and the Humanities Faculty is highly collaborative, which leads to the production of excellent resources for students. Students enjoy their studies of RS, and the subject contributes to a Good, vibrant school with above average outcomes for students.
All students at WVC study Religious Studies in Years 7 to 9. Students examine the 6 key major religions in Year 7, establishing an understanding of they key religious beliefs and teachings of those religions. In Years 8 and 9, students begin to examine more ethical debates and examine key practices. For example, in Year 8 students examine the notions of Creation and examine key festivals in different religions, whilst, in Year 9, students debate whether the human race are truly stewards of the Earth and ethical arguments surrounding punishment of crimes. At GCSE, students study the AQA Religious Studies course, focusing on Christian and Islamic beliefs, teachings and practices before studying ethical debates on: relationships and families, crime and punishment, peace and conflict, and, religion and life.
As a Humanities Faculty, we are engaging with our local religious organisations and providers and aim to ensure that all students have a solid foundation of religious and cultural beliefs. A good applicant would be one that wished to engage and develop this further and ensure that all students had a rich foundation of knowledge surrounding religious belief.
There is an wide-ranging extra-curricular and super curricular offer at Witchford with time given to staff to run activities that are within their specialism or broader interests.
Students at WVC are each provided with their own iPad to learn in an engaging way.
We offer sector leading staff benefits alongside bespoke, high quality CPD programmes, cross-trust events, and exceptional opportunities for career development within our innovative family of schools across East Anglia.
This is an exciting time to gain experience in the school and Trust more widely.
The post provides an excellent opportunity for an ECT or experienced teacher and could be combined with leadership opportunities depending on the experience and interests of the applicant.
Our Trust is committed to equal opportunities, to safeguarding and the promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All staff are expected to share this commitment and undergo the appropriate checks. All positions within the Trust are subject to enhanced DBS checks and satisfactory references. Only applications submitted using the ELA application form will be accepted. We do not accept applications by CV.
