We’re recruiting a capable Adaptations Fitter to join our team helping older people and people with disabilities to live safely and well at home.
This role involves visiting service users at home to install equipment and adaptations which mean they can maintain their dignity and independence. Please find the job description and person specification below, along with details of how to apply.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role will work across our existing Islington Adaptations service and a new handyperson service covering Islington and Hackney.
Our Islington Adaptations service carries out work requested by Occupational Therapists at the London Borough of Islington to support older people and people with disabilities to live safely and well in their own homes. To achieve this, we assess people’s needs, provide minor home adaptations such as grab rails and stair rails, and supply and fit disability aids.
In 2024 we are also going to be trialling a new handyperson service focusing on simple jobs that enable people to maintain dignity and independence at home. This service will be piloted on a small-scale before a decision is made as to wider roll-out.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Overall purpose of the role
To fit home adaptations and undertake small handyperson-type jobs to enable people with physical needs to achieve a safe living environment at home, for example by fitting stair rails, grab rails, furniture raisers etc.
Main duties
To complete work as directed by the Senior Trusted Assessor, and as requested through LB Islington Occupational Therapists' referrals.
To install minor home adaptations and supply aids from MRS’ store of equipment.
To liaise with service users and/or the Administration and Finance Officer as appropriate to make appointments, gain access, plan and carry out the work.
To record work done on MRS’ database in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with GDPR regulations, for the purposes of invoicing and workload management.
To undertake stock-taking activities and provide updates to the Senior Trusted Assessor.
To work collaboratively with other members of the team and contribute to team building and development.
Keeping the tools provided by MRS independent Living in a safe, clean and useable condition.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Ability to and some experience of using power tools appropriately e.g. to fit stair rails.
A clean driving licence.
Ability and willingness to build good relationships with older people, people with disabilities and professional stakeholders e.g. Occupational Therapists.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Basic IT skills e.g. email, word processing and spreadsheets, and confidence engaging
with web-based project management platforms such as Trello and Airtable.
Willingness to undertake training relevant to the role, which may include Trusted Assessor training at a later date.
Ability and willingness to understand and apply our Health & Safety policy, and ensure that the safety of staff, colleagues and service users is paramount.
Prepared to undergo a basic Disclosure and Barring Service check.
