We are looking for an apprentice butcher to join London's finest Butcher, Delicatessen, Charcuterie, Cheese & Wine Shop. This is a chance to join an organisation with a reputation for excellent service, British free-range meat, fine foods and beautifully prepared produce. We will support and train the successful applicant in all relevant areas.

The Hampstead Butcher & Providore is North London's finest Butcher, Delicatessen, Charcuterie, Cheese & Wine Shop with a reputation for excellent service. We offer traditional meat cuts from a wide range of free-range beef, pork, lamb and poultry from British free-range farms in addition to game when in season. Our fresh food counters are stocked with a wide range of cheeses and charcuterie, hams and smoked salmon from England and continental Europe, cut and sliced to order. We also stock an extensive range of wines and craft beers selected to match our meats and cheeses. We employ people of all ages and backgrounds with a knowledge of and interest in fine food and wine.

Vacancy description

The successful applicant will work with the butchery team to develop their butchery and customer service skills and knowledge. Their duties will include:

• working on the block
• working the retail counters
• sausage making
• purchasing from Smithfiled Market

Future prospects

• Previous apprentices remain with our company and have progressed to become fully-fledged butchers and Head Butchers.

• Once qualified, our butchers earn £12+ per hour.

Training to be provided

The final certification will be for L2 Butchery.

The apprentice will learn:

• Knife skills - including cutting, boning, trimming and mincing of meat
• Health and safety practices, food safety and hygiene and key legislation
• Using butchery tools and machinery – including mincing, sausage making, bacon curing, vacuum packing
• Business profitability, maximising productivity, efficiency and customer care
• Team work and customer care skills
• Specialist retail shop or processing plant butchery skills

Qualifications Awarded

• Butchery Level 2 Apprenticeship Certificate
• Level 2 award in food safety
• Level 2 award in health and safety
• Level 2 award in knife skills
• Level 1 in maths and English (if applicable)

The apprenticeship is completed in partnership with Plumpton College’s highly regarded Butchery Apprenticeship Department, where the successful applicants will embark on a Level 2 Butchery Apprenticeship, lasting between 12 and 18 months. The course includes all aspects of modern butchery together with additional qualifications in food hygiene and health and safety. The course concludes with an assessment in skills and knowledge before the apprenticeship qualification is awarded.
