The development of its Centre of Excellence, a first-of-its-kind operation, will further progress the organisation's vision of combining skills and technology. Further to significant technological investment, the Head of Works will lead with the Centre of Excellence through an exciting period of growth.

Job Description

The Head of Works will lead a skilled team of 20+ with responsibility for the design, manufacture and installation across a breadth of restoration and leading-edge CAPEX projects. Primarily, you will embed a high performance culture developing systems and processes in harmony with world-leading craft skills.

This role will play an integral part in the development of the Centre of Excellence creating an exciting vision to deliver world-class restoration and identifying longer term commercial opportunity for the organisation. The Head of Works will lead a significant transition from manual operations to 5 axis machining whilst developing systems and processes enabling the organisation to commercialise.

Wider responsibilities will include:

• Develop and operate forward thinking project management systems.
• Empower and engage all team members to develop existing practices collaboratively.
• Work closely with both internal and external expertise on further technological development.
• Create and embed a commercial approach targeting Cost, Quality, Delivery, People and H&S.
• Act as a senior member of the leadership function at York Minster.
• Develop training programmes and identify progression opportunities.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Head of Works will be a passionate and forward-thinking leader, possessing a range of the following:

• An energetic and engaging leadership style
• Demonstrable experience in developing high performance cultures in technical / skilled fields.
• A proven track record in project delivery
• Business acumen and exposure to commercialising operations
• A technical background from a manufacturing or engineering environment (or similar technical field)
