Education Support Worker (ESW) within our Student Services, Wellbeing Team
37 hrs per week, 36 weeks per year (termtime) permanent
£21,455 - £23,034 per annum pro rata

The purpose of the Education Support Worker (ESW) role is to support a discreet group of students, defined by the College as vulnerable young people. This currently includes students that are currently or have been Looked After (L.A.C.)
You will join a busy team in our student services Wellbeing team where you will support a caseload of students to engage well with their education and in doing so have the best chance of being successful on their course. You will work closely with a wide variety of professionals including our internal college wellbeing and teaching delivery teams as well as external social workers, support workers and carers all from different Local Authorities.
The role is focussed on co-ordinating and contributing to support meetings such as Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings, communicating planned targets, actions, and progress to teaching delivery staff, parents / carers, and managers as well as monitoring and supporting individual students to so that they are able to maintain consistent attendance and achievement on their chosen course.
The ideal applicants will have a level 2 or equivalent qualification and previous experience working in an educational, youth work or residential care setting.
The ability to work to timescales whilst maintaining an empathetic approach, having knowledge of L.A.C, Leaving Care and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) processes and an understanding of the mental health difficulties students might face will be beneficial.
These roles include occasional home working as well as flexible site working.
Previous post holders have come from a variety of working backgrounds such as retail, voluntary youth work and temping roles and through the training and experience they’ve received in post, have progressed into a variety of careers such as teaching, residential support, mental health support and more.

Experience of:
• Working in a large Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) College
• Supporting students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and languages
• Working collaboratively with a variety of professionals from Social Care, Teaching, Support Teams, Residential Support, Virtual Schools, Mental Health, Learning Support, Student Finance, Guidance Advisors, International Advisers, Interpreters
• A wide variety of multi-agency support processes.
Mentoring
Structured individualised mentoring with your Line Manager to support your individual development in the role and beyond.
Shadowing
Opportunities to shadow the wide variety of professionals to see first-hand the role of each agency and professional in supporting our vulnerable learners.
Qualification
In year two of this role, we will support you to explore qualification pathways for further on the job training, relating to your role.
