Job Title: Interim Deputy Monitoring Officer

Location: South East England – Fully Remote Working 3 days per week

Rate: Competitive Day Rate - Negotiable Dependent upon Experience

Venn Group’s specialised legal recruitment team have exclusively partnered with a Local Authority based in the South East of England to recruit an Interim Deputy Monitoring Officer who will provide high level Legal Governance assistance

The role is offered for an initial 3 months with the view to extend on a rolling basis. This role offers the right candidate an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Local Authorities long term strategic plan

The ideal candidate will be a Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with recent post qualification experience of working within Local Government as a Monitoring Officer, Deputy Monitoring Officer or Principal Solicitor level looking to expand on their governance experience.

Job Description

1. Provide strategic counsel and guidance to council officers and members on matters of strategic importance, complexity, and public visibility
2. Undertake thorough analysis and assessment of governance and constitutional issues to ensure adherence to legal requirements and best practices
3. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to develop effective strategies and solutions for addressing governance challenges while optimising organisational performance
4. Offer expert advice and recommendations to senior management and decision-makers on navigating intricate governance frameworks and processes
5. Proactively identify areas for improvement in governance practices and propose innovative solutions to enhance organisational efficiency and effectiveness

The role of Interim Deputy Monitoring Officer comes with a competitive day rate which is dependant upon relevant experience. Prior experience of governance within Local Government is essential to this role and while applicants with a legal background are preferred, those who come from a non-legal background but with the relevant Monitoring Officer experience are thoroughly encouraged to apply for this position
