Divert NS is a not-for-profit based in Truro, NS, focused on supporting the province to recycle and live in more sustainable ways. Through a combination of stewardship programs and multiple initiatives, they provide new opportunities and approaches to waste diversion and reduction.

On their behalf, we are seeking an Executive Director, EPR Oversight to join their head office team. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring their organization’s compliance with the regulatory requirements and driving effective enforcement measures. You will be responsible for developing and implementing compliance strategies, policies, and procedures. Your primary focus will be to establish systems and processes to track, monitor, and enforce the organization’s adherence to the Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging, Paper Products and Packaging-Like Products (EPR for PPP) regulation, with the goal of minimizing environmental impact and maximizing compliance efficiency. As a member of the senior management team, you will promote collaboration between teams and contribute to the development of the strategic plan, annual business plan, annual budget, and other management reports and processes.

What qualities are needed in this role?

You have a post-secondary degree in business, finance, law, or environmental studies plus four to six years of management experience leading and evaluating programs and teams as well as working with IT systems designed to gather, monitor, and report on data. Assets include experience working in a regulatory agency and a strong knowledge of EPR programs, environmental laws, and compliance frameworks. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

You are a highly collaborative leader with a track record of building and maintaining constructive stakeholder relationships. Your ability to delegate and manage multiple competing deadlines and your well-developed skills at analyzing regulatory requirements and other complex issues result in well-honed decision-making and problem-solving skills. People can count on you to offer valuable insights and solutions to even the most intricate problems. You are comfortable with risk management and conduct yourself with ethics and integrity.

You have demonstrated you can lead with an equity and inclusion lens and can build and motivate a team committed to our values and to the compliance program goals.

The salary range for this role is $108,140 to $129,509.
