The Service Engineer at Oxford Instruments is responsible for installing all instruments in the Magnetic Resonance product range and to train customers specifically for their applications. To provide a high level of technical knowledge that will allow the optimisation of the instruments, sample preparation and method protocols for the customer applications. Candidates should want to work in a fast-paced environment finding solutions for problems found with our instruments in the field. The person in this role will be responsible for:

• To achieve 100% first time installations by verifying to the customer that the instrument will run their samples and achieve acceptable results.

• Optimising instrument parameters and experimental methods to achieve customer satisfaction.
• Advise and train customers on NMR theory, calibration, maintaining calibrations using setting up samples, sample preparation, accessories and method protocols.
• Install products globally in line with the order specification to agreed timescale
• Perform preventative maintenance to agreed timescales and required standards.
• Diagnose faults and perform on site repairs.
• Produce and maintain all technical documentation relating to installations, risk assessments, quality and site reports.
• Maintain and develop own technical awareness and keep up to date with technological advances
• Keep up to date with new product introduction programmes to ensure new releases can be supported in the field.
• Submit installation reports in a timely manner and close out any post site issues.
• Ensure visits are pre-planned to prevent delays and customers are informed of pre-visit requirements and kept informed of outstanding issues.
• Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably required by the Company.
• Take personal responsibility for your health and safety and for that of others who may be affected by your actions and behaviour. Comply with the Company’s arrangements for health, safety and environmental protection.

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and experience:

• Technical Degree in chemistry, physics or material science
• • A proven background in the use of analytical instrumentation for process and quality control
• • Proven background of using analytical instrumentation preferably with in a food or polymer industry
• • Excellent problem-solving skills
• • Able to optimise customer applications in the field by adjusting instrument parameters and experimental conditions
• • A good working knowledge of modern computer technology including Linux operating systems.
• • Understanding of statistics and instrument performance criteria including standard deviation, repeatability, precision, reproducibility etc.
• • Competent in the world-wide installation with skill level gained in a highly technical instrumentation environment
• • Analytical approach and technical aptitude for fault-finding
