Job description
We are seeking a Service Technician to carry out fire extinguisher installations surveys repairs and maintenance as well as service with limited commission and install if competent fire alarm and associated systems that complies with the associated regulatory Standards and industry best practice. This would include building and maintaining good relationships with our clients and demonstrating high standards of customer service that support the organisations culture
Principal Responsibilities
- Carry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with the Companys quality standards.
- Give prompt and efficient attention to emergency call outs received during working hours including outside of working hours if duty engineer.
- Support the rota schedule as required to maintain a reliable and responsive out of hours service for customers.
- Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status particularly system defects that affect its correct function.
- Plan own work including routine service/maintenance visits emergency call out requirements and remedial repairs and minor additions to existing installations in line with service administration guidance.
- Ensure legible and timely completion of all company paperwork in line with Company
- requirements.
- Be responsible for the management and security of own equipment stock in an efficient and economical manner by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate.
- Discuss any suggestions for system/service improvement with the Senior Engineer.
- Attend training sessions identified by the Company and identify and communicate to the Engineering Manager any personal training and development needs.
- Installing servicing and maintaining Portable Fire Extinguishers in accordance with BS5306 for National Key and Local accounts.
- Be accountable for ensuring effective area planning to maximise travel time and time on customer premises.
- Liaise with Service Administrators to ensure the needs of our customers are met.
- Be responsible for the management & security of vehicle stock tools & equipment.
- Approach all training positively & complete all duties in a professional manner.
- Travel and some stop over is expected during the training period and busier months.

Skills:
- Able to work independently.
- Able to plan implement and complete service activities without assistance.
- Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems. and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
- Able to operate all required test equipment
- Demonstrates a logical approach to system fault diagnosis and rectification.
- Understands different types of cable containment systems.
- Deal with customers endusers construction personnel and inhouse staff in a professional manner.
- Verbal and written communication.
Health and Safety/Quality/Environmental:
- Has completed and fully complies with the necessary H & S/Quality/Environmental training.
- Fully understands and complies with the Companys health and safety Environmental and Quality procedures.
- Comply with any additional Health & Safety/Quality/Environmental requirements requested by the client.
- Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Pt:1
- Completed Units 1456 and 8 of BFPSA Training.
- Understands the basic building service systems e.g. air conditioning systems with a view to interfacing with them.
- Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system.
- Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA)
- Manufacturers training with a minimum requirement of Notifier and Gent equipment in respect of servicing
- Manufacturers Training in all other equipment as required. This may include VESDA Radio
- Fire Suppression and will be decided by the Engineering manager based on regional needs.
Note: Specific product training will be arranged within the first 6 months of employment if
necessary to meet the minimum parameters.
Documentation:
Able to read prepared plans and technical sketches service and repair systems in accordance with information provided and record changes to and the location of equipment on the installation drawings and the O & M manual.
Identifies and reports the requirement for new and additional works to the Senior Engineer
Accurately completes appropriate paperwork in line with Company requirements
Calculates the incidence of false alarms and prepares advice for the customer on the
implications of these incidents.
