JOB TITLE: Graduate Resident Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Houseparent/ Head of School
To undertake general duties in all parts of the Boarding House and School, prioritizing working with the Boarding team. Assisting in sports activities and lessons and assist School Staff.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Support the Boarding Staff and assist in the day to day running of the Boarding House;
- Boarding duty includes assisting with bedtime routines, waking up and organising pupils in the morning and entertaining and socialising in the evening;
- Provide assistance in the areas of sport that are offered to both boys and girls. This includes preparing equipment for both games sessions and matches, coaching a team either alone or alongside another member of staff;
- Assist in lessons in subjects of specific interest during the School day;
- Provide the office and staff with administrative support, including photocopying, filing, shredding, answering the phone and various other day to day admin tasks;
- Carry out Matron duties as directed when matron is unavailable by escorting pupils to the Medical Centre;
- As required, escort (or transport) pupils to medical appointments or A&E;
- Opening up and locking up the school in the absence of more senior boarding staff;
- Supervising lunch or break times – including setting a good example to the pupils and encourage them to eat using appropriate table manners and close supervision of the children as they play on the field, courts or patio;
- Assist with various other events happening throughout the year for example: Speech day, Sports days, Swimming galas, Parents’ evenings;
- Willing to be flexible in working patterns. Evenings, Saturday and Sunday work is required on a rota basis.

- Be able to use initiative and take responsibility;

- Be computer literate;
- Behave and act as a member of staff when working with children and maintain an appropriate distance;
- Enjoy working with young people;
- Be aware of the ages of the children that they will be working with and understand their needs;
- Be a good communicator/listener and be able to build appropriate relationships with students, teachers and support staff whilst maintaining professional boundaries;
- Be able to provide quality time for the Boarders with mutual respect being shown;
- Be flexible and adaptable;
- Have a good sense of humour;
- Set a good example to the children at all times, both in appearance and in conduct;
- Committed to the development of a working culture that values and celebrates the contributions and achievements of colleagues.
