The Opportunity
Would you like to be responsible for delivering innovative and efficient solar PV designs that meet the technical and regulatory requirements of our projects? If so, this is the opportunity for you. As our PV Design Engineering Manager, you will be an integral part of the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Generation Team, situated within the Development Directorate. Their role will encompass leading the Design Engineering team to provide comprehensive support for projects across their entire lifecycle, spanning from origination through construction and into operation.
Our C&I Generation Team is dedicated to providing onsite energy solutions to large industrial and commercial clients. These projects typically involve the construction and direct integration of energy solutions into client-owned sites, with project sizes generally ranging from 200kWp to 25MWp.
Location: Hybrid role with approx 3 days per week in Edenbridge, Kent.

As part of the C&I team, your role as PV Design Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional PV Solar Engineering services. They will consistently demonstrate their ability to add value in a fiercely competitive and ever-evolving marketplace, all while upholding the highest engineering and quality standards. Their contribution is crucial to maintaining Engineering Excellence in our PV Solar Projects, especially as we experience rapid growth and diversification across various technologies.
Your role will be split between leading on production of engineering documentation output for the most complex projects and man management with additional focus of;

What do you need to be great at this role?
You’ll have proven experience in solar PV system design: >10MWp ground-mount as a priority.
- Proficiency in design software such as PVSyst, PVSol, Helioscope, SAM, AutoCAD or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of photovoltaic technology, system components and solar energy fundamentals.
- Familiarity with relevant codes, standards and best practice pertaining to solar PV system design and installation.
- Proven experience of design review and approval (third-party contractors or internal team members).
- Engineering management experience – line management to include upskilling team members.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct detailed site assessments and shading analysis.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proven experience in solar PV system design: roof-top and carport.
- Strong electrical knowledge – such as production of SLDs, cable calculations, HV design experience.
- Experience of grid applications, coordination, management of offers.
- Excellent at building successful relationships with external partners, peers, stakeholders and reporting line.
- Good command of Microsoft Office package (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, etc.).
- Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas as the role requires.
- Excellent (English), oral and written, communication skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, health, environment and quality.
