Major Recruitment are on the lookout for dedicated Principal Mechanical Engineers to embark on a stimulating 5 to 10-year hybrid contract journey. We are seeking visionary professionals who will lead in the delivery of engineering and technical excellence through their expertise, experience, and innovative approach.
As a Principal Engineer you will play a pivotal role in steering engineering and technical activities by applying your deep domain knowledge, process expertise, and extensive experience. At this level, you are an adept engineer who tackles a spectrum of technical challenges, compiles technical reports and presentations, adheres to specifications, and acts as a mentor to your colleagues. You will independently drive projects forward with minimal technical guidance or work seamlessly within a small, collaborative team.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with 2 days spent working in the Warrington office and 3 days working from home. This position plays a pivotal role in bolstering various sectors within the United Kingdom, including nuclear decommissioning, power generation, new construction, and defence. Its significance rests in providing essential support to these key industries, ensuring their growth, sustainability, and security. In this role, you will actively contribute to the advancement and prosperity of the UK’s nuclear and defence sectors while also contributing to the nation’s energy needs and infrastructure development.

Experience/Qualifications/Skills:
- A degree in engineering (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline, accompanied by substantial demonstrable experience.
- Expertise demonstrable in one or more specific specialist areas relevant to the engineering discipline with a track record of successful application of specialist knowledge or skills.
- Ability to provide leadership in a key area within an engineering function and act as a custodian of resource and expertise.
- Engineering experience demonstrating a record of successful delivery, including positions influencing professional engineers in the definition, implementation, and delivery of engineering work packages.
- Ability to provide strategic guidance based on knowledge and experience of projects across a portfolio to inform and direct projects and programmes.
- Proven experience in managing teams for analysis activities across various project types.
- Demonstrated versatility in handling tasks of varying complexities.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate across different disciplines.
- Membership in a relevant institute or substantial demonstrable engineering experience that qualifies for registration with the Engineering Council.
- Experience in managing engineering scopes for projects from concept design to full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
- Chartered Engineer status (or active pursuit of Chartered status).
- Extensive and diverse experience in commercial or defence projects.
