Job description
A Vacancy at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for 2 x enthusiastic Teaching Fellows to support multi-disciplinary undergraduate teaching across Manchester and Edge Hill Medical School curriculum within Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals. The post holder will be expected to teach across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.
There will be groups of medical students who will need to be provided with clinical teaching each week.
Outside of teaching duty, the doctor will provide cover for the Acute Medicine Ward in the capacity as ST1 equivalent.

The job involves delivering clinical teaching to students as follows:
• • Year 3 - Year 5 medical students from the Manchester Medical School (MMS) at the University of Manchester, posted to the WWL FT.
• Year 1 and Year 2 Physician Associate students from Edge Hill University Medical School (EHUMS) posted to WWL FT
• Year 2, 3 & 4 medical students from Edge Hill Medical School (EHUMS) posted to WWL FT
• Preparation and delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduate students hosted by WWL, ensuring the requirements of each curriculum are met.
• The successful candidate(s) will provide teaching as per curriculum requirements of the medical schools.
• To have prior involvement in undergraduate or other structured training/teaching including transferable skills from outside the clinical practice.
• Assistance with the planning and organisation of student activities as outlined by the appropriate undergraduate curriculum.
• Delivery of patient care to the ward-based patients.
• Be a member of the acute medical team completing medical wards rounds and completing ward jobs as commensurate with the grade.

Clinical Duties (two days per week)
• The post holder under the supervision of senior colleagues will undertake the below duties, these are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service:
• Identify and synthesize problems after taking detailed history and relevant examination
• Follow Trust guidelines in safe prescribing
• Keep an accurate and relevant medical record using HIS
• Manage time and clinical priorities effectively
• Communicate, use evidence-based guidelines and follow Trust policies to benefit patient care
• Take part in audit and governance activities
• Complete acute medical duties
• Complete discharge process
Planning and Organisational Duties
• To work with the lead consultant in looking after patients on the ward
• To have effective prioritisation, time management and organisational skills.
• Liaise with the Undergraduate Department to help with the organisation of timetables and teaching rotas
• To cover clinical teaching in the absence of your colleagues during periods of annual leave and study leave.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
• To discuss teaching arrangements with module leads MMS and EHUMS.
• In the event of job share to communicate the distribution of work between teaching fellows.
• To work with other doctors working on the ward within the medical team
Responsibility for Human Resources
• Be responsible for the care and welfare of Medical Students during teaching sessions.
Responsibility for Health & Safety
• Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
• Work within and be aware of NHS guidelines that support information governance, information security, data quality and audit.
Responsibility for Teaching
• Delivery of clinical teaching to Manchester Medical School (University of Manchester) Undergaduates (Year 3 – Year 5)
• Delivery of clinical teaching to EHUMS Medical School Undergraduates (Year 2 – Year 4)
• Delivery of teaching to students of the wider multi-disciplinary team, including the EHUMS Physician Associate degree programme

• No on-calls
