The role of the CFD Engineer is to work as part of the GBP (Grinding, Bulk & Pyro) global product engineering team supporting pyro products and projects. You will support product development and project execution using your CFD skills and knowledge to support the design of combustion equipment for a range of pyro processing applications. The successful candidate must be proactive and able to demonstrate the ability to work independently, but also in a team orientated environment. Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform system and process calculations for combustion equipment sizing.
- Perform CFD analysis for product development including model development and validation for combustion equipment design and providing input into development of practical engineering solutions and design recommendations based on the analyses.
- Produce technical reports and assist with writing technical proposals.
- Provide CFD support for consultancy and equipment supply projects, including technical and project discussions, both internal and with external customers.
- Work closely and communicate with the project and operations engineering team.
- Be actively involved in the PYRO global community and provide inhouse training to aid promotion of the products.
Technical Knowledge & attributes
- Strong knowledge and good understanding of fluid mechanics thermal sciences and industrial combustion processes.
- Hands-on experience with leading commercial CFD codes, preferably STAR-CCM+ (preferred) or ANSYS CFX/FLUENT software.
- Program coding knowledge (Java, Fortran, C)
- Knowledge of process engineering and/or project experience in heavy industry – ideally, at least one of minerals (cement, lime etc), pulp & paper, iron ore, oil & gas.
- Committed to working safely in all aspect of the business delivery.
- Competent problem solver with sound understanding of engineering principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation, and externally with suppliers and end users.
- Ability to organise, prioritise tasks in a dynamic multi-project environment.
- Able to lead and be an effective team member.
- Understanding the need for confidentiality when dealing with both internal and external information, and company intellectual property.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours when necessary to achieve objectives.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Education / Experience
- Minimum of two years’ experience using CFD either in industry or as part of a postgraduate qualification (MSc and/or PhD)
- Prior experience of combustion equipment in an industrial environment would be an advantage.
