We are looking for a motivated self-starter with experience in producing costings for bids and quotations and an interest in Ecology (experience is desirable) to fill our ecological estimator role.

Thomson’s growth and success has resulted in the requirement to fill a niche position in our Commercial team. Specifically, we are interested in an ecologist, or someone with an interest in Ecology, who can learn and apply ecological knowledge to inform costings for quote and bid submissions. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of ecological surveys and best practice or is interested in learning, and will be able to communicate with technical leads for information on specialist surveys and services. They will have good attention to detail and strong communication skills. They will be efficient with their time management and capable of working independently on small to mid-sized quotes or part of a bid team for larger tenders.

Main duties and responsibilities:

· Review and interpretation of tender documents relating to ecological consultancy services.

· Produce accurate costings for ecological services such as preliminary ecological appraisals, protected species surveys and mitigation, habitat regulation assessments, biodiversity net gain and ecological impact assessments, with support from technical specialists in the ecology team.

· Manage and coordinate responses to requests for quotations, including liaison with clients for clarifications on their brief, where required

· Effectively manage their time to ensure quote and tender deadlines are met.

· Compile feedback from project managers to improve accuracy of costings.

· Communicating with clients and obtaining feedback to maintain a good understanding of market rates and pricing points for different sectors

· Liaise with technical staff to stay updated with changes in legislation, planning policy and best practice.

Successful candidates will:

· Be commercially-minded, enthusiastic and motivated for success.

· Have knowledge of procurement processes.

· Be a well-organised self-starter with good attention to detail.

· Have experience responding to tenders and quotes with costings.

· Have a broad knowledge of ecological survey, mitigation and best practice, gained through experience working as an Ecologist. (Desirable – Training can be provided)
