Job description

I have a fantastic opportunity for a creative, passionate primary teacher for a role in a Special school in Stroud working with the year 2 and 3 class who are at EYFS stage in their learning. This is a full time role working 08.30 - 15.30 Monday to Friday from Monday 19th February and is to continue on until the end of the academic year in the first instance but extremely likely to become permanent for the right candidate too.

The school welcomes pupils who are preverbal and on the autistic spectrum predominantly and those who have moderate to severe learning difficulties. Here the class sizes are small, averaging 8 per class and you will have 2 support workers / HLTA’s supporting you. Each classroom has its own outdoor space for outdoor learning and have a breakout soft place where they can go for some down time if needed too. The children need and therefore the school provides a place of routine, structure, support and inclusion and it is beneficial but not vital that candidates are experienced with Makaton, communication grids and Team Teach.

The school aim and succeed in promoting a calm environment where each child feels listened to and the ideal candidate is someone who meets the following criteria:
• Resilient
• Calm and positive demeanour
• Energetic and bubbly Teaching manner
• Team player with an eagerness to learn
• Good communicator and adaptable
• Firm but fair approach

The school’s curriculum is designed to meet the emotional and academic needs of each child to promote relevant and sustained development of the ‘whole-child’ and the school’s approach is very ‘hands on’, with lots of opportunities for active outdoor learning and school visits to a range of fabulous local settings. In addition to this, there is a real team feel in this fantastic school where everyone works well together. Staff work together to ensure that every child can learn in a way that meets their individual needs.

There are plenty of CPD opportunities here (even some led by the head teacher!) as the school believes that every day is a new learning opportunity and staff are role-models to their pupils. The school is situated on the outskirts of Stroud and is easily accessible for people with their own transport in addition to those using public transport.

We are looking for:
-a creative teacher with QTS, ideally with experience or an interest in pupils with SEMH needs
-someone proactive who can work well with other staff and outside agencies
-an inspirational teacher who can plan and deliver engaging, exciting & differentiated lessons to meet the needs of each child.

If you are interested in this role, please get in touch ASAP by emailing [email protected] so we can talk and arrange a visit to the school, so you can see for yourself what a wonderful learning environment it is!
