Salary: £50k to £55k
As a Transport Manager you will be responsible for a vital part of the supply chain process, you will manage people, processes, legal compliance and systems to ensure goods are delivered to our customers on time in a safe manor. You will also be responsible for workplace H&S standards and for the security of the building and stock ensuring audit compliance. Responsible for circa 80 indirect reports on both day and night shifts you will ensure you have sufficient resource to meet KPI and budgetary targets and be self-confident in decision making. You must respond to queries in a timely manner and provide a professional and positive customer focused service.
Responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate closely with the field and telesales teams to understand our customer needs, align the transportation operations, and agree strategies to improve the overall customer experience
- Effectively manage the capacity across the department, including future growth and seasonal peak planning
- Be responsible for ensuring the daily analysis, reporting and performance metrics are adhered to, reviewed and improvement plans put in place where required
- Ensuring that labour and KPI budget targets are met. Produce regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
- Continuing to drive customer service to meet our high level of customer service across the business
- Developing the skills of the transport leadership team and set goals/priorities for the team
- Ensure that all transport team members have regular 1-2-1’s and support the teams with their personal developments
- Organising and planning training for all of the transport teams including completion of training manuals/records
- Lead and ensure the highest standards of H&S, food safety and audit compliance in the workplace (BRC)
- Ensure adherence to all relevant transportation regulations, leveraging your Transport Manager CPC to maintain the highest standards of legal practices
- Champion a safety-first culture by promoting adherence to transport rules, driving protocols, and safety measures for drivers, vehicles, and the public
- Delegate authority and responsibility to the team with supervision, accountability and review
- Create CI culture within the team/company. Encourage and lead the team to identify issues and involve them in developing solutions to address them and be involved and lead project related activities
The successful candidate will have:
- Possession of a valid Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- In-depth understanding of transportation regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements
- Experience in developing strategies to improve customer service, meet service level agreements, and address customer feedback
- Familiarity with transportation management systems, route optimization software, and other relevant technologies
- Demonstrable experience within a transport environment or similar role
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of managing teams
- First-class relationship building skills along with good planning and organisational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to identify errors to raise high standards and quality to achieve continuous improvement
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of health and safety
- Strong personal qualities aligned with our values and a calm approach to work
