Senior Packaging Development Technologist - Sustainability
Based in Worksop with travel/working at alternative sites
WFH 2 days a week if required
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead trials, new material development, and new formats across our extensive portfolio and much-loved brands, to drive the delivery of our sustainability strategy, with support from the wider Packaging function, and packaging partners
Do you offer....?
- At least five years in a direct packaging development role, preferably in a Food or Beverage environment
- Packaging R&D project delivery from concept through to launch
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) based degree, particularly Packaging, Materials Product Design would be an advantage.
- Institute of Packaging Diploma would be an advantage.
- Project Management skills
As a Senior Packaging Development Technologist focusing on Sustainability you will.....
- Manage the packaging trial and implementation process, specifically: trial protocols (including objectives, outputs, success criteria etc.); supplier support; operations briefings; specification changes; supplier changes and due diligence validation e.g. distribution and retailer handling trials for the key project delivery against our sustainability strategy and project tracker. Both within internal and external capability.
- Support the development process for packaging changes required to deliver on business ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) targets (2025 and future)
- Understand and communicate the impact of packaging on the environment and be able to communicate this to project teams and key stakeholders.
- Keep up to date with new packaging materials and formats, and legislation/regulations related to packaging through webinars, external forums, industry contacts, etc.
- Develop packaging that meets current and foreseeable regulatory requirements and business targets e.g. ESG targets, Plastics Tax, EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility).
- Scope out alternative recyclable materials to replace existing non-recyclables.
- Create & develop recyclable packaging that meets agreed standards for finished product, filling machinery performance, branding. Sell in ideas to marketing, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, lead the packaging development of an idea from concept through to implementation.
- Within the project team manage the packaging development process including costings, concept samples, trials (including objectives, outputs / success criteria etc.), operations briefing, due diligence validation, process compliance, distribution and retailer handling trials within Premier sites and within co-packers.
- Use effective project management skills and ensure clear communication both written and verbal.
- Investigate & communicate new technology developments that could support innovation (wider Packaging function)
- Manage and develop a positive approach to Packaging & Machine suppliers to attain new ideas.
- Maintain and update Packaging databases e.g. Hamilton Grant Packaging Specifications
