The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the COLO-SPEED research team, as the COLO-SPEED Research Programme Administrator.

COLO-SPEED aims to establish a world leading hub for colorectal cancer (CRC) research, recruiting large numbers of patients from regional endoscopy units (the place where polyps and cancer are diagnosed) in the North-East and beyond. This will provide a research ready “resource” to enable a wide range of CRC research studies to be conducted at scale and speed. This world-leading hub will deliver a step change in CRC screening, prevention and early diagnosis (SPED) research, improving outcomes for patients and the wider population.

COLO-SPEED will harness the enthusiasm of local endoscopy teams and build a long-term sustainable research infrastructure. It will use the patient contact point of endoscopy to develop a population-based “experimental platform”, comprising individuals attending for screening, symptomatic and polyp/cancer surveillance endoscopy. This will recruit patients into a wide range of CRC studies across the disease continuum, creating a unique, world-leading, resource for CRC Screening Prevention and Early Diagnosis (SPED) research, delivering benefits to patients, the wider population of the NE.

The COLO-SPEED Research Programme Administrator will provide administrative and organization support to the COLO-SPEED research group, to support successful delivery of the COLO-SPEED portfolio of research. COLO-SPEED is building the world’s largest platform for research in prevention and early diagnosis of bowel cancer. We deliver a range of studies, with a variety of methodologies and focuses, all of which have the ultimate aim of reducing bowel cancer deaths. The COLO-SPEED team spans Newcastle University and South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and this post would sit within Newcastle University.
