Chief Technology Officer (CTO) - Strategic Leadership in Energy Technology Innovation
The Role:
Our client is actively seeking a seasoned engineer and strategic visionary to assume the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), reporting directly to the company's board. As the CTO, you will provide oversight to the Product Development and Client Success teams, ensuring the technical delivery aligns with the company's goals. The successful candidate will champion and navigate the company's technology development roadmap, effectively managing budgets, addressing skills gaps, and fostering innovation.
Key Accountabilities:
Assume responsibility for the technical delivery of the company
Provide line management, guiding and supervising technical managers
Shape, refine, and execute the company's technology development roadmap
Stay abreast of industry developments, taking a leadership role within the field
Seek advice from business development and customer success teams to ensure technology investments are commercially successful
Foster complex collaborative partnerships to leverage external IP and address skills gaps
Stay informed about local, national, and international political priorities and their implications for new product development and associated R&D and innovation funding
Define priorities for product development
The Person:
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Essential:
Solid technical background with proven research skills relevant to the company's products and services
Demonstrated ability to lead others in technical delivery, extending beyond your direct technical expertise
Proficiency in assimilating industry trends and strategically anticipating future needs and trends
Commercial acumen with a proven ability to strategically prioritise work within set budgets
Sound understanding of the R&D and innovation funding landscape, coupled with a track record of successfully bidding for substantial (£300k+) funding for complex multi-stakeholder projects
Budgeting experience, including an understanding of issues related to matched funding, leverage, etc., in the context of external funding bids
Proven ability to delegate effectively, communicate to technical and non-technical audiences, manage relationships with internal and external partners, and navigate conflicts of interest
Highly skilled in strategic thinking and associated decision-making
Demonstrated leadership capabilities to motivate colleagues and implement plans
Highly Desirable:
Experience in negotiating IP licensing agreements and determining equitable value distribution in complex value chains
Background in the Energy industry, with particular emphasis on renewable energy and offshore projects
Project management experience, especially in publicly funded projects
Desirable:
Familiarity with human factors and heuristics, with a proven ability to design systems to mitigate their potential impact
Formal project management qualification, such as PRINCE
Ability to communicate effectively in languages relevant to the offshore wind market
