This position serves as the chief educational officer of the University, is a key member of the President’s Cabinet and is a direct report to the University’s President. This position will partner with other senior leaders to systematically position the University for continued success by leading the University, a mission, faith and student centered, strongly entrepreneurial institution to the next level of academic distinction, student success, and faculty engagement and support. This position provides direct supervision to 7 professional employees and 3 staff employees.

Primary Duties

• Oversee the activities of the following areas and programs: Academic and other offices/special programs consistent with the educational mission of the University.
• Serve as Chief Educational Officer of the University reporting to the President and serving on President’s Cabinet.
• Lead the institution’s development of new mission-driven and market-sensitive UG and Grad programming.
• Oversee the recruitment, retention, dismissal, retirement, professional development, evaluation, promotion, release time, and compensation of teaching faculty and other professional personnel, and, where appropriate, make recommendations to the President for action.
• Represent the interests of the University to all relevant associations and accrediting agencies.
• Encourage creativity and innovation in educational programming and in the use of personnel and financial resources to meet University objectives.
• Assure the excellence and integrity of all programs; promote the highest quality teaching, scholarship, and service; and champion the very best in spiritual life, student life, and athletic activities.
• Nurture among faculty, educators, staff, and students a Christian community of relationships, of scholarship, and of spirituality which embraces both freedom and responsibility and which pursues the University motto: “Christ Preeminent.”
• Work collaboratively with the Vice Provost for Student Success and Engagement in coordinating the educational area with particular attention to areas where the programming in the curriculum and co-curriculum overlap and in coordinating the work of the COE Senate.
• Work with the Executive Director/Assistant to the President for Innovation and University Partnerships to nurture partnerships that add revenue to and opportunities for the University.
• Oversee the preparation of budgets for the Provost’s area.
• Function collegially and cooperatively with administrative colleagues, members of the Community of Educators and other relevant staff, both personally and through committee structures, towards the realization of all the above responsibilities.
• Coordinate with the elected chair the work of the Community of Educators Meeting and Ranked Faculty Meeting.
• Maintain the Community of Educators Handbook, University Catalog and other publications related to the educational program.
• Coordinate the work of administrators reporting to the Provost through the work of the Provost’s Cabinet.
• Assume responsibility for development and coordination of Provost’s Seminar for new educators.
• Assist the President in working with the Board of Trustees in preparing reviews and recommendations and in representing him/her to the Committee on Education as appropriate.
• Serve as the chief administrative officer of the University in the President’s absence.
• Serve on the Term Tenure and Promotion Committee.
• Serve on the Crisis Management team and International Risk Management Committee.
• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
