Job description
What you will do in your working day
Eye Technician:
- Following training and sign-off, to perform a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information including, but not limited to, visual fields and OCT scanning, and Reichert tonometry
- Assist clinicians during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparations and documentation.
- Administer topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by for testing or treatment.
- Prepare and position patient for diagnostic tests and procedures. This may require moving or manoeuvre patients, to do so.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct, at all times.
- To attend mandatory training such as Health and Safety, Fire or Resuscitation.
- To attend any Practice Meetings as necessary
- Referral processing and patient registration
- Clinic bookings
- Handling telephone queries
- Administrative tasks such as: scanning, letter typing etc.
The training you will be getting
- Customer Service Level 2
- No weekly release day into college - there will be one workshop every month held in our Little Germany campus
- All training to take place in the work place
- Assessor will visit the apprentice every 4-6 weeks
- Functional Skills available if required
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Potential full time, permenant position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
