Field Test Engineer (Sunderland)

Job description
We are seeking a motivated Field Test Engineer to join our team and contribute to the testing and validation of our autonomous driving systems. In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers to support the execution of test plans and evaluate the performance of our automated driving technology.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for autonomous vehicles and a desire to gain practical experience in the field.
The role will be based in Sunderland with potential travel to Rotterdam, Netherlands also.
Role:
- A test plan will be provided to carry out tests on autonomous vehicles, with help from experienced engineers.
- Run predefined tests on autonomous vehicles. These tests evaluate how well the vehicles perform, their features, and safety.
- Develop and support creation of test reports that describe the testing process, results, and any problems or unusual findings.
- Help set up and calibrate test equipment such as sensors, data loggers, and other tools.
- Make sure that test equipment is well-maintained and organised.
- Keep accurate and current records of tests, including test plans, results, and equipment calibration.
- Support in organising and managing test data and assets.
- Work closely with the engineering team and offer assistance when needed.
- Share updates on the progress of tests, discoveries, and any issues with team members.
- Assist safety drivers by closely monitoring the system and alerting if there are any performance problems.
- We will support the development of technical skills and industry trends to expand your knowledge in autonomous driving systems and testing methods.
Skills/Experience
- Passion for autonomous vehicles and eagerness to learn and contribute to the field.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow test procedures accurately.
- Good organisational and documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- A plus: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A plus: An understanding of autonomous vehicle technologies, robotics and/or operating systems such as Linux
