Job description
We are a leading high street supplier looking for a Junior Womenswear Shape Designer. Experience in ladies' fashion, fabric knowledge, and garment construction is required for this role.
The Junior Womenswear Shape Designer will be responsible for supporting three senior shape designers and providing new and exciting ideas across ladies/men's clothing categories, as well as building ranges and working with a fashion graphics design team.
Clothing design experience is essential for this role, along with the ability to have a strong eye for fashion and to work at pace in a busy design environment.
Some hybrid working is offered for this role following the probationary period.
Responsibilities
- Researching and suggesting strong design concepts appropriate for the company's fashion retail clients
- Follow up and coming trends from the catwalks, social media, street style and report back to the wider team
- Interpreting customer trends to design and create suitable ranges that are commercially sound
- Have a keen eye for fabrics and an understanding of suitable end use of different cloths
- Liaise with the Turkey team & mills to develop and source new fabrics
- Grow and organise a strong fabric library for the team to reference
- Developing trend boards in collaboration with the design teams and multiple departments
- Guiding and collaborating with customers/buyers on current and future market trends including silhouette and fabrics
- Producing accurate and detailed CAD drawings for presenting both to customers / buyers
- Producing accurate and detailed tech packs / specs for sampling with all measurements, trims, finishes, details included
- Coordinating product development with global suppliers by developing and sourcing new techniques, trims, fabrics and embellishments that are commercially viable
- Building and maintaining good working relationships with global suppliers to ensure sample accuracy, quality and deadlines are met in line with tech packs
- Working closely with product team to identify key customer categories and best sellers to maximise orders
- Assisting the organising and managing of proto samples in the office when used for customer meetings or reference.
- Occasionally altering samples in the office using the office supplies including; sewing machine and overlocker with an excellent finish
The Candidate:
- A minimum of 1 year's experience working for a fashion clothing company
- Demonstrate creative expertise gained within a womenswear fashion environment
- Able to work in a fast-paced fashion environment
- Strong experience and enthusiasm for fashion across ladies' and men’s jersey
- Continuously researches new trends and contributes this new knowledge to the team
- Confident in presenting trends and design developments internally and externally
- Good communication skills with a positive and accommodating attitude
- Self-motivated, hardworking and confident
- Excellent organisational skills and time management
- Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to use Illustrator (Photoshop would also be an advantage)
