Job description
What you will do in your working day
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Develop procedures to ensure health and safety of all employees, contractors and visitors to the company
- Maintain source of advice and guidance to all staff operating with business, supporting managers on health and safety matters
- Monitor business operations, processes and producers to ensure they comply with Health and Safety regulation
- Investigate and report on any accidents, near miss incidents and make recommendations to management
- Assist in the management of the Don’t Walk By system by monitoring and maintaining the database, preparing meetings, choosing winners at random and sending to the SHEQ team for month end report
- Positively promote the near miss reporting utilising Don’t Walk By methodology
- Work with management at Hardstaff Barriers to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a good communication in regard to the Depot’s SHEQ compliance
- Maintain good working relations with insurers and other relevant authorities to ensure companies interests are safeguarded and a safe healthy working environment is maintained
- Advise on necessary training for managers and staff to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements
- Maintain an awareness of developments in field of health and safety to ensure that the company continues to comply with best practice and legal requirements
- Managing and reviewing the Safety Cloud for the business
- Helping to and producing the RAMS for VSG. Producing SOP’s/RAMS for Hardstaff Barriers Depot activities
- Environmental monitoring and ensuring compliance throughout the business
- Conducting inspections and audits as required by the business
- Maintaining enough time to complete and work on my apprenticeship
- Monthly competitions such as Hard Working Hardstaff and Great Service Award
- Attending meetings with supply chains on behalf of businesses
- Assist in production of the monthly staff forum
- Positively promote the safety culture with all staff
- Aim to inspire/influence others
- Completion of the monthly Met Police KPR report with assistance from management
- Produce safety alerts/toolbox talks and monitor the responses
The training you will be getting
You will be undertaking a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician apprenticeship standard, a combination of on and off the job training along with an external training provider, using training methods such as webinars, individual coaching and group workshops.
If you haven't already achieved GCSEs at grades C/4 (or equivalent) in maths and English, this will be supported alongside the apprenticeship.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Once you have completed your Level 3, there is an option to develop to NEBOSH level and choose which specialism to progress onto. We also offer ongoing training and progression to senior management level within the Hill and Smith business.
