The Academy seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate to the role of Pastoral Intervention and Support Lead who will influence three key functions in the Academy: attendance, behaviour and safeguarding.

The Academy is one of the leading schools in England for academic attainment - it is in the top 30 secondary schools in the country for student progress and provides a broad, academic curriculum for all its students. Student attendance is 9% higher (just under 98%) than the national average and the suspension and permanent exclusion rates are significantly lower than national averages. Students therefore attend regularly, they behave very well, and they perform very well.

While the Academy experiences very few issues of poor attendance and poor behaviour, these situations can be time-consuming, and in cases where external support is necessary, this support might be unavailable because services have been cut or, where these services do exist, they might be ineffective.

The Academy recognises therefore that it needs to enhance its pastoral provision to support its vulnerable students and prevent escalation. It wishes, therefore, to appoint a professional who has experience of working with young people and who is committed to securing excellent attendance and behaviour for all students so that they can give of their best academically.  The ideal candidate will work with teams to identify patterns of behaviour that might lead to non-attendance or that might develop into more serious patterns of indiscipline that will ultimately require increasing levels of sanction and support. This new role will help augment the support already available at the Academy for students faced with barriers to their learning and develop therapeutic mentoring and rigorous liaison work with families.

All posts are 36½ hrs per week for just over 39 weeks per year. Some flexibility in working hours will be required including supporting a few evening meetings during the academic year.

The Academy is judged to be an Outstanding school (Ofsted 2021); is heavily oversubscribed for places; achieves excellent examination results and maintains high standards of student behaviour.
