Our client is seeking a Risk Manager to lead on risk and opportunity management across their business winning and project delivery phases.
Role Purpose
Responsible for facilitating and controlling the identifications and assessment of risk and the planning and implementation of treatments to maximise threat reduction and realisation of opportunity. The role is also responsible for validating and assuring the project team risk identification and assessments and undertaking risk analysis on both time and cost. This role supports the development/maintenance of good practice processes and the governance of these outputs. The Risk Manager provides training material and delivery to PM and delivery functions supporting the process as well as schedule and cost risk analysis provision.
Role Responsibilities
Provide risk and opportunity management and analysis across all phases of the project, including business winning.
Develop the Project Risk & Opportunity Management plan that is compliant with policy, procedure and commercial requirements and ensure it is implemented.
Develop and maintain the project risk register by managing the identification, assessment, analysis (including QRA and what if modelling) and prioritisation of risks, and the planning and implementation of risk treatment.
Analysis of risk and production of risk performance reports with conclusions and recommendations to the project and business.
Manage and control time and cost risk contingency and ensure the management of risk is aligned to business financial and commercial needs
Responsible for the effective stakeholder management and communications for all aspects of risk management within the project
Responsible for establishment and ongoing maintenance of bid/project risk and opportunity registers
Ensure effective methods are used for the continual identifications and sentencing of risks across all stakeholders
Ensure risks are described and recorded effectively and in line with best practice and policy.
Responsible for facilitating stakeholders to establish robust and realistic assessment of risk probability and impact
Responsible for facilitating stakeholders and establishing risk treatment plans and actions (e.g. mitigation) that are specific, owned, measurable, time bounded, effective and are coherent with risk assessment post treatment.
Responsible for ensure effective communication of risk position and stakeholder risk management responsibilities and then effectively supporting their implementation and monitoring and controlling that implementation.
Responsible for updating risk information so that its remains current to the project’s current position.
Ensure bids are provided with risk management inputs, including risk contingency and pricing information, in a way that ensure an effective balance between risk allowance and successful bidding.
Develop and maintain risk performance reporting formats that meet project and business needs, at all and any levels of granularity, and allow visibility of risk exposure, performance of risk management, risk contingency position and forecasts, analysis of risk and priorities and what of scenarios.
Responsible for planning and managing risk meeting and workshops both internal and external to ensure risk are managed effectively
Provide a schedule and cost risk analysis capability across business winning and project definition/delivery phases and provide what if scenarios on risk.
Ensure that the management and control of time and cost risk contingency is effective across the business and ensure the management of risk is aligned to business financial and commercial needs
Ensure risk is managed in compliance with government Single Source Regulations where relevant and that risk submissions to the customer protect the company’s interests.
Responsible for using historic project risk data and analysis of risk performance to improve risk management on the project as an LFE approach. This includes using it for risk ID, assessment and treatment planning.
Determine the need for Risk & Opportunity Management training of project personnel and arrange for its delivery
Attending and contributing the business Project Controls and/or Risk Specialist Interest Group
Skills/Experience/Qualifications
Extensive recent and relevant experience in a similar environment / business sector
Extensive experience in a specialist risk & opportunity position
Awareness of various contracting methodologies (eg FIDIC/NEC3-NEC4/JCT etc…)
Advanced risk & opportunity management techniques eg Monte Carlo Analysis
Full project lifecycle experience from bid phase through to close out.
A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in engineering / project / construction management or a related field
A postgraduate qualification is also desirable, as is membership in a professional body
Ideally APM qualified preferably to Chartered Project Professional (ChPP)
