Job description
What you will do in your working day
- To be professionally accountable and work independently, managing and prioritising your workload
- To use own knowledge, skills and initiative to perform tasks independently, accessing advice and supervision accordingly
- To communicate delegated factual information to patients, carers using persuasion, reassurance, tact and sensitivity
- To create individual resources such as communication passports, timetables, etc to be used as part of the therapist's intervention
- To successfully complete projects and assessments as per the criteria set by the University of Essex in line with the apprenticeship program
The training you will be getting
- The successful applicant will begin their training on the Level 5 Assistant Practitioner (Health) apprenticeship with the University of Essex. This is a two-year programme leading to the award of the Foundation (FdSc) Assistant Practitioner degree
- The apprentice will then progress on to the two-year Level 6 Speech and Language Therapist degree apprenticeship top-up with Essex. The top-up apprenticeship programme awards a BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy degree
- During the four years of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will receive six hours per week of off-the-job training to attend university for academic training. This will usually be given as one full day per week but will be discussed further during the interview and onboarding process
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Successful completion of the Level 6 Speech and Language Therapy degree apprenticeship leads to HCPC registration and the ability to work as a Band 5 S&L Therapist.
Further progression is possible depending on an individual's career aspirations. For example, further apprenticeships are available in advanced clinical practice, leadership and management, and coaching and mentoring.
