Locum Multimedia Editor / Senior Multimedia Editor
Fixed Term contract (maternity leave cover)
Locations: London, New York, Washington DC, or Jersey City – Hybrid Model
Closing date: 14th March 2024
We are looking for an experienced multimedia editor to produce and commission editorial multimedia content for Nature. This is a locum position to cover parental leave.
As Locum Multimedia Editor, you will sit within Nature’s magazine team, but work closely with editorial teams across Nature – on high profile video productions. Whilst primarily a video role, you will also contribute to the award-winning Nature Podcast.
Key Tasks:
To commission and produce authoritative agenda setting editorial videos and podcasts for Nature Magazine about the stories that matter to scientists, from the latest research to science and social justice.
Specifically, this will include:
- Video editing
- Script writing and editing
- Story development
- Camera and sound operating
- Equipment management
- Stock image/footage/audio research
- Publishing management, i.e. video upload and compression/formatting, metadata, obtaining correct permissions
- Helping to manage the Nature Video YouTube channel
- Audio production where necessary to support the team’s audio output
- Working with animators and other freelance producers to create content
Key relationships:
- Regular contact with all the members of the Multimedia team
- With the manuscript editors at Nature
- With the Nature reporters and news/features/opinion editors
- With supplements project manager and broader team
- With Production
- With external stakeholders- sources, authors, press officers etc.
Skills/knowledge, Qualifications:
Essential
- Mac literate
- Experience of video compression and format conversion
- Extensive experience of video editing with Final Cut ProX or equivalent software
- Experience of news reporting/researching
- Extensive experience operating a camera including: shooting talking heads, action sequences and B-roll; manual camera operation; uploading/importing footage to editing software
- A strong understanding of copyright and filming contracts as related to rights forms
- Audio editing with Adobe Audition or equivalent software
- Experience of social media sites e.g. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc.
- Batchelor’s science degree
