You will have obtained a diploma/degree/MSc from an Environmental Health course accredited by the CIEH and hold the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) certificate.
Candidates who have completed the degree/MSc course but are still working towards EHRB registration or equivalent are also encouraged to apply and if successful would be employed as a Technical Officer (Grade G) until registration is achieved, which we would expect to see within a 12 month period.
The Role
Bolton Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Housing Standards team. This role will involve complaint investigations, HHSRS inspections, empty homes work, HMO licensing, elements of Statutory Nuisance and private water supplies.
You will also work closely with partner organisations to assist them in fulfilling their statutory responsibilities in relation to gas safety.

About You
You will be required to manage and prioritise your own case work, which will include responding to service requests and organising specific areas of work around gas safety. The role will involve working to specific timescales, were accuracy and recording of information is crucial.
The ideal candidate will have experience in using Statutory Nuisance legislation to deal with a variety of matters and be able to take appropriate action in the event of non-compliance, which will include carrying out work in default and prosecutions.
You will also have experience of assessing housing conditions using the Housing Health & Safety Rating System, along with being able to utilise the various types of enforcement action available. A good understanding of the wider issues affecting housing and health would be beneficial, along with previous experience in tackling empty homes.
You will have excellent organisational, communication, negotiation and IT skills and be flexible in response to changing demands.
