Job description
Volunteering is a fantastic way to enhance your CV, meet new people, and learn lifesaving skills.
No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.
As Unit Manager you will be responsible for the overall management of your St John Ambulance All Services unit. You will do this by leading meetings, organising first aid cover at events, organising youth development activities and other community activities. This is done through working with a team of functional leads (Youth, Events, Training) within the unit leadership team and with all the adult, Cadet and Badger volunteers in the unit.
You will actively participate in the recruitment, training and retention of the volunteers in your unit. You will ensure that they have a positive and rewarding experience in St John Ambulance, by equipping them with the necessary skills to fulfil our vision; ‘Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.’
This role is ideal for someone who has some management experience and wants to enhance their skills while doing invaluable work. This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.
There will be one unit manager to oversee the High Wycombe Youth Services unit ( which is to be formed from merging the current Badger and Cadet units under one leadership upon the current managers stepping down. The successful person would ideally be a qualified youth leader (or willing to undertake this training within 6 months of appointment to the role).
The post holder would have the overall responsibility for the running of the new unit in line with SJA policies, the accurate keeping of all records pertaining to the unit and any other duties as may be requested by the line manager on behalf of the District Management Team.
