iRecruit are currently looking for a highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a growing company based in Rotherham on a full time, Permanent basis.
Main Job Purpose
- To design and develop the mechanical content of quality mechatronic products within agreed time-scales and budgets and according to company procedures.
- To ensure that the design concepts used by engineers within the team will meet all the customer’s requirements and conform to all the latest best practice within the company.
- To ensure that the design work of the engineers within the team is robust using the design review and D-FMEA processes.
- To ensure that the production costs on all projects within the team are in-line with the quoted costs.
- To improve the robustness of the design process by reviewing current processes and procedures and identifying ways for improvement.
Principal Accountabilities
- Design profitable mechatronic products according to the companies design rules that meet specified customer and internal requirements.
- Prepare, review and approve design project documentation that gains the approval of the R&D mechanical manager.
- Work closely with other principal engineers to ensure a common approach to the development process.
- Verify designs with care and thoroughness so that all failures to meet requirements are prevented.
Preferred Education & Experience
Education; oneof the following is essential:
- Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 3 years relevant experience.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years relevant experience.
- HND/HNC with 7 years relevant experience.
- Senior mechanical design engineer with internal training completed.
Relevant experience means allof the following:
- Mechanical design work using a CAD system (Catia V5 preferred) and state-of-the-art CAE techniques.
- A strong background in the design of small technical plastic injection moulded components.
- Involvement in / leading team work internally and with the customer.
- A strong background in best practice mechatronic development process.
- Design for manufacture within a medium to high volume environment.
- A thorough knowledge of FMEA, APQP, PPAP and Six Sigma methodologies
- Agree test plans and validate products thoroughly so that all failures to meet requirements are corrected in a timely manner and communicated effectively to the customer.
- Prepare and approve design changes which have been evaluated for cost and feasibility and proven to be effective through virtual or physical modelling.
- Lead the product development team working during the development phase to achieve on-time release and R&D management approval.
- Give timely and active support to the customer’s needs so that the customer does not express dissatisfaction.
- Support the manufacturing departments on design matters relating to products being introduced into, or already in, production.
- Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing to obtain new business.
- Ensure full commitment and support for training, supervision, succession planning, recruitment, discipline, communications, health and safety, housekeeping and personal discipline.
