Job summary

Reporting jointly to the Director, Financial Management, Control, Risk & Governance and Finance Director for Operations you will be responsible for leading and developing the finance transformation programme through which we will continue to increase the quality and efficiency of the finance offering across the Ministry of Justice.

In doing so, you will help to create streamlined financial processes and use modern technology where possible to ensure quality outputs, creating more efficient, effective, and customer-focused services, building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders across the Ministry.

You will need to be a first-class finance professional with a track record of delivery in complex and fast changing environments.

As a key member of the Finance Function Senior Leadership Team, you will also play an essential role in leading and building our future Finance community, supporting the development of staff, role modelling effective leadership behaviours and ensuring we live our values.

Person specification

• Review the effectiveness and efficiency of the current Finance Operating Model, both for the immediate and medium/ longer term. Engage with internal Finance stakeholders and with customers across the MoJ functions, policy and operations (all levels to SCS3), to understand current levels of satisfaction and areas for improvement.
• Review ways of working, products and processes to drive increased compliance with the Finance Functional Standard and convergence with GFF global process principles.
• Build on the outcomes from these reviews to make proposals for improvements in the way that services are provided. This will include implementing effective technological solutions to enable all finance colleagues to focus on value adding activities.
• Once agreed, deliver the changes in a way which achieves buy in from the function, customers and stakeholders, including leading on a communications and engagement plan.
• Act as Finance functional lead for MoJ within the Synergy Programme, delivering identified transformation readiness opportunities, advocating for MoJ within the Programme, and providing constructive challenge as a critical friend.
• Play an active role in developing the MoJ Finance Function, creating a strong cultural identity and cohesion, empowering staff, promoting accountability and the autonomy to deliver internal and external objectives.
• Work closely with your peers across the Ministry to ensure the maximum value is delivered by the Finance function.
