Oxford Science Enterprises plc

Job description

What you will do

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, analytical, personable, and creative Investor Relations Associate to join a dynamic company at the forefront of science and innovation in Oxford. You will be joining the capable IR team responsible for OSE’s shareholder engagement and portfolio company fundraising – for some of the world’s best science-led start-ups coming out of the University of Oxford.

The role will be varied with plenty of opportunity to develop. Duties will include developing shareholder reporting materials and updating the company’s CRM database, to identifying target investors for portfolio companies to help with their fundraising efforts. You will report to the Head of Investor Relations and work alongside the ESG Manager.

Who we are
Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE) is an independent, billion-pound investment company, created in 2015 to found, fund and build transformational businesses via our unique partnership with the University of Oxford, the world’s #1 research university.

This partnership enables us to work with the brightest academic minds tackling the world’s toughest challenges and guarantees us unrivalled access to their scientific research. In collaboration with our global network of entrepreneurs and advisors, we shape and nurture these complex ideas into successful businesses, while targeting attractive returns for shareholders.

Actively focused on a core portfolio of around 40 companies spanning three high-growth, high-impact sectors – Life Sciences, Health Tech, Deep Tech – we adopt a flexible, long-term investment approach, recognising the path from ground-breaking research to global markets takes time and resilience.

To date, we have invested £0.5 billion in over 80 ambitious companies built on Oxford science, helping progress 27 from seed to Series A, and 21 to Series B and beyond, including 2 IPOs and 7 trade sales.

In July this year, we raised a further £250 million ($300 million) in funding from a diverse group of international investors, with strong participation from existing and new blue-chip investors, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, pension funds and asset managers. This brings the total amount raised by OSE to more than £850 million (>$1 billion) since inception in 2015.

A key player in Oxford’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, we are highly motivated to foster an environment that catalyses pioneering research and steers it to commercial success. We are committed to doing this in an inclusive and sustainable way.

What we require

To excel in this position, you will possess prior experience within a venture fund, front office banking, consultancy position, or IR team at an Associate level. Comprehensive knowledge of the VC industry and the ability to source, track and build a strong network of VC contacts is essential, as well as strong communication skills, and the ability to produce best-in-class IR materials. You will be an ambitious and proactive self-starter who requires minimal supervision but can also work collaboratively with the team and build trust with a variety of stakeholders.
