Job description


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Ward Leader to join our 14-bed paediatric ward at Dorset County Hospital.

This Band 7 Ward Leader post requires an enthusiastic, driven, and passionate paediatric registered nurse who empowers their team to deliver high standards of care. The post holder will work collaboratively across teams to deliver positive patient outcomes, aspire to continuously develop and share their knowledge with the team, be a champion for children to ensure their voice is heard, and above all, lead with kindness and understanding.

Core hours of work are Monday to Friday with an expectation to be flexible to the needs of the service.
• Be identifiable by uniform, visible and accessible in the clinical area to the clinical team, patients, and service users. Working pattern is supervisory in nature across 7 days. Changes to the working pattern must be agreed with the immediate line manager and reviewed at regular intervals.
• Work alongside the team and acting as a role model.
• Monitor and evaluate standards of care to ensure high quality care is delivered. Cannula and IV line care, fluid balance monitoring, Clinical observations including PEWS, Bowel monitoring, Catheter bundle compliance, Isolation procedures, hand washing and safeguarding.
• Act as a change agent and resource for the team. Providing leadership for new initiatives such as Vital Pac, electronic rostering, and prescribing.
• Create a culture for learning and development that will sustain person-centred, safe and effective care. Ensuring staff including health care assistants are encouraged to develop as practitioners in skills and level of practice to promote excellent care and patient experience.
• Ensure electronic records are maintained and accessible documenting standards such as training and competency.
